Database Administrator – Infrastructure & Disaster Recovery

Backup and Recovery

• Configure and maintain database backup and recovery arrangements according to criticality, retention requirements, and approved recovery objectives.
• Administer database-native backup, restoration, and point-in-time recovery processes and integrate databases with the enterprise backup platform.
• Monitor backup activities, investigate failures, and resolve recoverability gaps.
• Conduct scheduled restoration and recovery tests and maintain recovery records and evidence.

High Availability and Disaster Recovery

• Configure, administer, and monitor database high-availability, replication, and disaster-recovery technologies.
• Monitor replication, synchronisation, availability, and failover readiness and investigate technical issues.
• Maintain failover, failback, restoration, and recovery procedures for critical database services.
• Participate in switchovers, failover tests, and disaster-recovery exercises.
• Coordinate recovery activities with Infrastructure, Applications, Network, Backup, and Cybersecurity teams.

Security, Change, and Lifecycle

• Apply secure database configurations, least-privilege access controls, auditing, logging, encryption, and credential-management practices.
• Administer database users, roles, privileged accounts, service accounts, and permissions and support access reviews and audit evidence.
• Implement database changes through approved change management, including validation, rollback, and recovery arrangements.
• Develop automation scripts for monitoring, maintenance, backup validation, and reporting.
• Monitor platform support lifecycles and plan patching, upgrades, migrations, retirement, and modernisation activities.

Incident and Operational Support

• Investigate and resolve database availability, connectivity, performance, corruption, replication, and recovery incidents.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for significant or recurring incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Restore database services according to operational priorities and recovery procedures.
• Prepare database health, performance, capacity, backup, and recovery-readiness reports.
• Participate in on-call or emergency technical-support arrangements where required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• At least five years of relevant enterprise experience in database administration, infrastructure database services, backup and recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle, plus practical exposure to MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and Redis.
• Experience with RMAN, Transparent Data Encryption, Commvault, Kubernetes-based platforms, SUSE Rancher, Portworx, and Helm.
• Experience monitoring database and infrastructure dependencies with Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, or Datadog.
• Experience with secure access and secrets management using solutions such as HashiCorp Vault.
• Relevant database, cloud, Kubernetes, backup-platform, or ITIL certifications are advantageous.
