Role Overview

The Category Manager owns the full category strategy to drive sales, profitability, market share, and availability.

The role supports a customer-focused category offering across offline and e-commerce channels.

The manager supervises the Category Specialist and coordinates execution across operations, supply chain, marketing, and marketplace teams.

Category Strategy

  • Develop and implement category strategy aligned with company goals.
  • Lead quarterly category reviews, portfolio planning, and commercial roadmaps.
  • Define sales, margin, pricing, and availability objectives.
  • Align strategy with operational execution and customer expectations.

Assortment and Inventory

  • Approve assortment mix using consumer insights, sales performance, and market trends.
  • Lead SKU rationalization, item classification, and seasonal planning.
  • Monitor out-of-stock, overstock, ageing, and other inventory health indicators.
  • Work with Supply Chain on stock levels, replenishment, and escalated availability issues.

Vendor and Commercial Management

  • Establish supplier partnerships and negotiate pricing, rebates, trade terms, contracts, and promotional support.
  • Evaluate supplier availability, OTIF, contribution, and lead-time performance.
  • Secure exclusive deals, improved margins, and category-boosting activities.

Pricing and Promotions

  • Set pricing architecture and approve regular and promotional prices.
  • Lead promotion planning with Marketing and Marketplace teams.
  • Conduct pre- and post-promotion analysis to assess ROI and uplift.
  • Maintain competitive pricing while protecting healthy margins.

Analysis and Reporting

  • Analyze customer behavior, sales trends, competitor activities, and opportunities for new products.
  • Drive data-based decisions using sales, margin, DOC, availability, inventory turnover, and BSV metrics.
  • Lead monthly category closing and report performance, gaps, and action plans to senior management.
  • Provide insights and forecasting for budgeting cycles.

Media and Visibility

  • Collaborate with Media Partnership to secure supplier investments.
  • Oversee listing fees, visibility activities, digital advertising, and offline media support.
  • Ensure commercial return and alignment with supplier plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4–6 years of experience in FMCG or retail category management.
  • Strong negotiation, pricing, supplier management, and commercial planning skills.
  • Advanced use of Excel, PowerPoint, and business intelligence tools.
  • Strong analytical and presentation capabilities.
  • Understanding of JDA, ERP, or forecasting systems is preferred.
  • Leadership skills to manage the Category Specialist and cross-functional operations.
