About the Role
- The engineer will work across LabOS, an internal software platform coordinating experiment scheduling, execution, data capture, and results processing.
- The role is full-stack product engineering at the intersection of software and physical-world biology.
- The engineer will own large product areas and have significant impact in a small team.
Day-to-Day Work
- Create interfaces and APIs that give scientists and AI agents real-time visibility into laboratory activity.
- Build AI agents and tooling that automate decisions from protocol design through troubleshooting failed results.
- Turn proprietary laboratory hardware into API-controllable devices that agents and software can operate programmatically.
- Design scheduling systems coordinating many laboratory instruments with complex dependency chains.
What the Employer Seeks
- Full-stack production experience; the stated stack includes TypeScript, React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
- Product instinct demonstrated through shipping products, observing users, iterating, and shipping again.
- Comfort with ambiguity, independent problem scoping, prioritisation, decision-making, and planning.
- Heavy use of AI tools combined with enough engineering experience to recognise quality.
- Curiosity about biology is valued, but no biology background is required.
