The role will take the site from an empty shell to a fully operational, high-throughput protein engineering laboratory.
The lab will support production work for partners and research and development projects in protein production and characterisation.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the lab fit-out, including infrastructure, safety systems, contractors, timelines, and readiness.
- Coordinate delivery, installation, qualification, and handover of array-SPR, BLI, liquid handlers, and other instruments.
- Build inventory, procurement, shipping, cold-chain, maintenance, chemical-handling, and waste-management systems.
- Establish laboratory safety, compliance, documentation, risk assessments, notifications, and permits.
- Hire and manage the laboratory operations team.
- Run the lab after launch and own uptime, throughput, inventory, maintenance, safety, and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience building or expanding a laboratory through a fit-out, site move, major equipment installation, or new laboratory launch.
- Deep hands-on laboratory operations experience in a high-throughput, automation-heavy, or similarly technical environment.
- Experience or education in biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, or a related life-sciences field is highly preferred.
- Experience owning laboratory safety, permitting, and compliance.
- Strong vendor, contractor, supplier, and logistics-provider management skills.
- A highly operational approach to building systems, spotting problems early, and managing detail.
- Comfort working at startup pace with changing priorities and limited predefined processes.
- Comfort using AI tools to improve how work gets done.
- Based in London or ready to move there for this on-site role.
