Role overview

The Engineering Productivity team maintains infrastructure and internal systems for Arista's product development teams.

The Software Engineer will design, build, administer, scale, and operate secure tools and infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment.

The systems support CI/CD, testing, analysis, visualization, and developer productivity.

Core responsibilities

  • Build, deploy, and operate production systems focused on scalability, reliability, observability, performance, and security.
  • Monitor services, improve developer experience, automate operational work, and enhance alert handling.
  • Create incident response runbooks, perform triage, engage vendors, and write postmortems.
  • Deploy systems in stages and coordinate production maintenance windows.
  • Identify infrastructure bottlenecks affecting product development teams and implement solutions.
  • Adopt platform best practices and improve system scale, fault tolerance, performance, and availability.

Essential qualifications

  • BSc or MS in computer science or engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • The posting specifies 2 to 6 years of equivalent experience when substituting for the academic background.
  • Knowledge of one or more of Go, Python, or shell scripting for medium-complexity automation workflows.
  • Linux or UNIX administration and debugging knowledge.
  • Hands-on experience operating software or infrastructure systems at scale.
  • Server provisioning experience, especially involving storage and networking.
  • Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code.

Preferred technical experience

  • Database management experience with MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar systems.
  • Docker and virtualization experience with technologies such as KVM, QEMU, or Kata Containers.
  • Monitoring stack experience with Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, InfluxDB, Grafana, or Thanos.
  • Experience managing Elasticsearch clusters, Artifactory, Docker registries, CI/CD systems, or version control systems.
  • Experience with Ansible, large Java applications, or storage infrastructure such as NAS, SAN, or Ceph.

Team environment

  • The role supports Arista's product development teams and collaborates with engineers across internal infrastructure and platform systems.
  • Arista describes its development organization as engineering-centric, with ownership of projects and opportunities to work across domains.
