Role overview
Senior Software Engineer opportunity on the MediaWiki Content Platform Team.
The team evolves wikitext infrastructure supporting collaborative editing and content experiences across hundreds of languages.
The role involves large-scale systems used by hundreds of millions of people and substantial ownership of complex technical projects.
Accountabilities
- Improve large-scale wikitext processing infrastructure while balancing user experience, performance, compatibility, and maintainability.
- Own technical projects from problem definition through architecture, implementation, testing, and production delivery.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, design, client, and community contributors.
- Develop and maintain PHP and JavaScript software for multilingual content experiences.
- Design and maintain reliable internet-facing APIs.
- Build performant and maintainable components used by other teams and products.
- Instrument systems to monitor performance, quality, reliability, and features.
- Use caching and persistence technologies to improve scalability and responsiveness.
- Communicate architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.
- Contribute to testing, code reviews, security, documentation, and maintainability.
- Mentor other engineers through discussions, reviews, documentation, and guidance.
