Position Overview

The partner company is seeking a Head of People & Organization based in the United States.

This strategic People leadership role focuses on organizational effectiveness as the business scales from a lean team toward a larger workforce.

The role combines organizational psychology, behavioral science, people systems, and business strategy.

The leader will work directly with executive leadership and help build an AI-enabled, high-leverage operating environment.

Accountabilities

  • Own organizational design and health, including structures, leadership layers, responsibilities, incentives, and team effectiveness.
  • Diagnose organizational challenges, identify root causes, and recommend targeted interventions.
  • Lead talent strategy across recruiting, critical-position hiring, succession planning, retention, and chronic underperformance.
  • Build People systems that prioritize capability and impact per employee rather than headcount growth.
  • Define standards for individual effectiveness across focus, prioritization, decisions, communication, problem-solving, and feedback.
  • Design training and coaching programs that measurably improve individual and team performance.
  • Establish communication systems and norms that improve feedback, information flow, meetings, transparency, and collaboration.
  • Partner with Program Management to translate company priorities, vision, and OKRs into planning and execution practices.
  • Design continuous-feedback performance management based on observable behaviors and measurable inputs and outputs.
  • Own manager effectiveness, including manager development, delegation, one-to-one quality, coaching, and team effectiveness.
  • Lead compensation and incentive architecture, including salary bands, benchmarking, bonuses, gain-share, promotion criteria, and internal equity.
  • Manage the employee lifecycle, distributed-workforce systems, employer brand, candidate experience, and development of a lean People team.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of progressive People or HR leadership experience, including at least 3 years at Director, Head of People, or comparable level.
  • Experience designing or redesigning organizational structures and org charts in response to evolving business strategies.
  • Experience building People systems from the ground up in startup, scale-up, or high-growth environments.
  • Experience delivering measurable training, coaching, and manager-development programs.
  • Ability to diagnose organizational dysfunction, identify root causes, and implement practical interventions.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and ability to translate people and organizational data into business decisions.
  • Executive presence and confidence providing candid, constructive guidance to senior leadership.
  • Active proficiency with AI tools, supported by concrete examples of applying AI to People practices.
  • Strong understanding of human psychology, behavioral dynamics, organizational systems, and performance management.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Advanced training in Organizational Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, behavioral science, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience with gain-share or outcome-based compensation, organizational behavior change, or distributed organizations is preferred or valuable.

Compensation

  • Base salary is $175,000–$225,000 per year, depending on experience.
  • Gain-share opportunities are tied to demonstrated, repeatable value creation and may increase total compensation.

Workplace

  • The role is fully remote within the United States.

Benefits

  • Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, and flexible paid time off.
  • The role offers significant autonomy and direct partnership with executive leadership.
  • The position provides an opportunity to build People and organizational systems during substantial growth.
