Role overview

Build and evolve shared platform infrastructure used across multiple product and engineering teams.

Work on systems involving approval workflows, permissions, authentication, notifications, scalability, data integrity, and backward compatibility.

The role offers broad technical impact and significant ownership of ambiguous problems.

Workplace

  • The role is remote from anywhere in Canada or the United States.

Accountabilities

  • Own shared platform systems and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and subject-matter experts.
  • Lead complex initiatives, create technical plans, and develop safe migration strategies.
  • Build secure, scalable backend applications and APIs with Ruby on Rails.
  • Design and optimize data models and SQL queries, primarily with PostgreSQL.
  • Review code, mentor engineers, improve engineering practices, and participate in on-call incident response.
  • Balance roadmap delivery with enabling teams dependent on shared infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Have strong production experience building full-stack web applications and APIs.
  • Demonstrate architectural judgment and the ability to evaluate shared-infrastructure risks.
  • Work independently and drive ambiguous initiatives with limited oversight.
  • Have platform, infrastructure, or technical enablement experience.
  • Have strong SQL skills, with PostgreSQL experience preferred.
  • Be comfortable with two-week Agile or Scrum-style development cycles.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails, StimulusJS, Redis, Sidekiq, PostgreSQL, or Kubernetes is valuable.

Compensation

  • The Canada base salary range is CA$156,500–CA$215,000, depending on geographic zone and other compensation factors.

  • The company provides up to $1,500 USD or $2,025 CAD toward home IT setup.
  • The company provides up to $50 USD or $67.50 CAD toward internet or cell phone services.
