The role combines hands-on backend engineering with strong Site Reliability Engineering ownership in production.

The position is fully remote within a globally distributed team and supports technology that protects businesses and users from online fraud.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize backend services for real-time data processing and web APIs.
  • Define and own SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for core API services.
  • Build observability with metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerts.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, mitigate impact, and lead blameless reviews.
  • Automate operational work, conduct capacity planning and load testing, and improve system performance.
  • Investigate production and product issues and translate findings into engineering improvements.
  • Collaborate across teams, contribute to engineering standards, and mentor other engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of backend software engineering experience, including operating production systems the candidate helped build.
  • Experience with formal SRE practices, scalable backend systems, APIs, microservices, and real-time data services.
  • Strong experience with Go and/or Node.js and willingness to learn the other technology.
  • Experience running production workloads with Docker and Kubernetes or comparable technologies.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, observability platforms, production on-call, incident response, SQL, databases, Git, shell scripting, and CI/CD.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and performance engineering.
  • Excellent English communication and the ability to work independently across a remote, asynchronous team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Computer Science or related degree is welcome, but equivalent professional experience is valued.
  • Experience with ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks is advantageous.
  • Performance profiling, cost optimization, large open-source contributions, asynchronous international teamwork, and experience with both Go and Node.js are valued.

Workplace

  • The position is fully remote and may be performed from a wide range of countries subject to local regulatory and security requirements.
  • The team collaborates globally through remote-first and asynchronous working practices.

Compensation

  • The posting gives a US compensation reference of $150,000–$200,000 in annual cash compensation for US-based employees.
  • Compensation ranges and employment requirements vary according to hiring location.

Benefits and Environment

  • The role offers continuous technical development, experimentation, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional growth.
  • Visa sponsorship is not provided, and employees must be authorized to work from their home location.
