Role overview

Join the global FACTS New Product Introduction team as an NPI Engineer based in Noida, India.

Focus on research and development for SVC and STATCOM reactive power compensator solutions.

Collaborate with system design engineering teams and FACTS teams in Finland and the United Kingdom.

Main responsibilities

  • Research and develop optimized reactive power compensator systems and innovative configurations.
  • Design controls that address losses, harmonics, power range, reliability, noise, and magnetic field emissions.
  • Calculate optimal compensator configurations and energy storage sizes.
  • Analyze reliability and design compensator control algorithms.
  • Integrate components such as energy storage into STATCOM solutions.
  • Execute NPI work from specification through implementation, validation, and documentation.
  • Support equipment sourcing, technical evaluation, and technical tendering.
  • Perform root-cause analysis, solve problems, educate stakeholders, and own assigned work.

Technical qualifications

  • MSc or higher degree in Power Engineering, Control System Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Specialized knowledge in Electrical Power Engineering and power system design.
  • Understanding of control theory behind grid-connected devices.
  • Knowledge of compensation systems, power electronics, and electrical energy storage.
  • Knowledge and experience with at least one electric-system simulation tool, including PSCAD, MATLAB Simulink, RTDS, or PSS/E.
  • Fluent written and oral communication skills with strong prioritization and time management.

Areas of expertise

  • FACTS devices, especially power-electronic-based STATCOM and SVC systems.
  • Power system engineering and cost competitiveness of FACTS solutions.
  • Electrical subsystem design, reactive power compensation, and grid-connected voltage source converters.
  • Analysis of losses, harmonic emissions, reliability, and energy storage integration.

Location and team

  • The position is based in Noida, India and is part of the FACTS NPI team.
  • Functional reporting is to NPI program leaders in Finland.
  • The role collaborates with Product Delivery Groups in Finland and the United States and an HVDC NPI team in the United Kingdom.
