Purpose of the Role
The Lifting Supervisor plans, coordinates, supervises, and executes lifting operations on construction projects.
The role ensures compliance with project requirements, approved lifting plans, statutory regulations, and international lifting standards.
The role coordinates crane operators, riggers, signalmen, and site management teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Valid LEEA certification is mandatory.
- Valid training certificates for lifting operations and lifting equipment inspection are required.
- Additional certifications such as Appointed Person, Rigging Supervisor, CPCS, NPORS, OSHA, NEBOSH, or equivalent are advantageous.
Experience Requirements
- At least 7 to 10 years of lifting operations experience in large-scale construction, infrastructure, industrial, power, oil and gas, data center, or MEP projects.
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a Lifting Supervisor capacity.
- Experience supervising mobile, tower, crawler, and gantry cranes and heavy lifting activities.
- Experience with high-risk, critical, tandem, and heavy equipment installation lifts.
- GCC or UAE experience is preferred.
Lifting Operations Management
- Supervise and coordinate all site lifting activities.
- Ensure lifting operations follow approved lifting plans and method statements.
- Verify crane capacities, lifting accessories, and equipment suitability before lifting.
- Monitor critical and non-routine lifting operations.
- Ensure effective communication between crane operators, riggers, and banksmen.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce HSE requirements, project standards, and lifting procedures.
- Conduct pre-lift briefings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure lifting personnel are trained, competent, and certified.
- Stop unsafe lifting activities immediately.
- Monitor exclusion zones and lifting areas for public and workforce safety.
Inspection and Equipment Control
- Verify inspection certificates for cranes and lifting accessories.
- Ensure slings, shackles, spreader beams, and other lifting equipment are maintained and inspected.
- Coordinate third-party statutory inspections when required.
- Maintain lifting equipment registers and inspection records.
Planning and Reporting
- Review lifting plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Participate in planning meetings for heavy lifting activities.
- Coordinate crane movements and lifting schedules with construction teams.
- Support engineering teams during heavy equipment installation.
- Maintain lifting permits and operation records and prepare reports or incident investigations when required.
- Monitor and report lifting performance and compliance KPIs.
Technical Competencies
- Knowledge of LEEA regulations, LOLER, and BS 7121 lifting standards is required.
- Knowledge of crane load charts, lifting calculations, critical lift planning, rigging methods, and lifting equipment selection is required.
- Knowledge of risk assessments, method statements, construction safety regulations, and permit-to-work systems is required.
Leadership Competencies
- Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and decision-making skills are required.
- The role requires a safety-focused mindset and the ability to manage multiple lifting activities simultaneously.
- Stakeholder management and the ability to mentor rigging and lifting teams are required.
