Lead Software Engineer (Node.js | React | TypeScript)

Role Overview

Accountabilities

• Develop, test, maintain, and improve web applications using Node.js, TypeScript, and React 18+.
• Own features from technical design and implementation through testing, deployment, and optimisation.
• Design scalable RESTful APIs and integrate applications with external systems and services.
• Build responsive, accessible, and performant interfaces using React, Tailwind CSS, and TanStack Query.
• Implement secure OAuth, OIDC, and session-based authentication and authorisation.
• Maintain quality through automated testing, code reviews, and reliable development practices.
• Optimise SQL queries and relational database interactions for performance and scalability.
• Use Git for source control, branching, collaboration, and code review workflows.
• Use AI-powered coding assistants while maintaining code quality.
• Work in Linux-based development and deployment environments.
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers on reliable user-focused features.
• Contribute to architecture, debugging, technical improvements, and performance optimisation.

Required Qualifications

• 8–10 or more years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience across modern frontend and backend development.
• Advanced Node.js and TypeScript proficiency.
• Strong React 18+ experience and knowledge of modern React patterns.
• Experience with automated testing using Vitest, Jest, or comparable frameworks.
• Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
• Practical Tailwind CSS and TanStack Query experience.
• Knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, and session-based authentication.
• Experience designing and consuming APIs and integrating external services.
• Comfort with Linux command-line tools.
• Strong Git and collaborative code review experience.
• Ability to use AI-powered development tools effectively.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience with Bun and Hono is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with AWS CDK and infrastructure-as-code practices is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM is highly desirable.
• Hands-on Docker and container-based development experience is highly desirable.
• Experience with Testcontainers is highly desirable.
• Experience in monorepo-based development environments is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with VS Code and productivity-enhancing extensions is a plus.

Work Arrangement

• The position is fully remote and full-time.
• The working schedule is 9 AM–5 PM Melbourne time.
