Role Overview

The Lead Engineer will contribute to electrical and electronics research in electrification and power generation.

The work covers renewable generation, conventional generation, power-system controls, and advanced technology development.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Conduct power-system research using modeling and simulation of electrical components and networks.
  • Design and analyze protection, stability, faults, controls, and laboratory-scale circuits.
  • Simulate electromechanical systems, renewable and conventional generation, and controls.
  • Develop optimization, scheduling, and dispatch algorithms for grid-connected and microgrid systems.
  • Develop and implement advanced electrical-system controls in hardware.

Programme and Collaboration

  • Manage programme execution, budgets, risks, and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with product engineers and Advanced Research colleagues on technical projects.
  • Represent research through proposals, presentations, customer discussions, and technical conferences.
  • Deliver independently or within multidisciplinary teams according to project requirements.

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Power Systems with at least 5 years of experience, or a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with at least 7 years of industry experience.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing power systems in an advanced technology development environment.
  • Expertise in power-system operation, simulation, dynamics, transients, protection, and stability.
  • Understanding of grid energy management systems and optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware design and real-time simulation equipment.
  • Experience with PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, Opal-RT, RTDS, or DIgSILENT.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills are preferred.
  • Experience with Python, C++, Visual Studio, signal processing, or AI/ML applications to power systems is advantageous.
  • Established project management skills are advantageous.
