IBMz Network Engineer

Role Overview

Work Model

• The role is hybrid with remote work linked to Sheffield, or remote across the UK and the rest of Europe.
• Remote and hybrid arrangements may be subject to client requirements and occasional office or client-site attendance.

Responsibilities

• Support IBM mainframe networks, transmission products, and infrastructure.
• Participate in a 24x7 support rota.
• Perform TCP/IP port reserve and VTAM updates.
• Manage OSA adapters and VTAM PU/LU updates, including Enterprise Extenders.
• Implement AT-TLS rules and manage digital certificates.
• Configure and manage IPSec policies, VPN-IPSec tunnels, and network security controls.
• Perform tracing, debugging, and error analysis.
• Coordinate with technical, application, and operational staff on connectivity and security.

Experience and Qualifications

• Experience administering file transmission products such as Connect:Direct and FTP, or equivalent user experience.
• Knowledge of z/OS, z/OS utilities, and z/OS networking services.
• Understanding of IPSec, TLS/SSL, certificates, and network security disciplines.
• Experience managing problems from diagnosis through resolution and understanding of change management.
• Ability to manage secure SNA and TCP/IP networks under z/OS.
• Knowledge of mainframe network management tools, multi-session managers, mainframe printing products, and System z hardware.
• General z/OS systems programming experience and experience as a z/OS Systems Specialist.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, teamwork, negotiation, organisational, and adaptability skills.
