Role Scope
The Assistant Operations Manager - Transport reports to the Operations Manager and manages daily passenger transportation operations.
The role oversees region-wide operational KPIs, service delivery, cost performance, fleet reporting, and compliance inspections.
The role works with fleet, compliance, and business unit teams to improve service and maintain operational performance.
Operational Management
- Manage daily operations for the passenger transportation division and the assigned area or zone.
- Manage area supervisors to deliver operational excellence, scorecard metrics, and operational KPIs.
- Implement fleet and operational policies and procedures and uphold transport compliance.
- Plan and optimize drivers' daily schedules for efficiency.
- Analyze vehicle, driver, and schedule patterns to improve resource utilization and reduce transport costs.
Financial Accountability
- Monitor annual operational spending against budget and report variances.
- Deliver cost-per-head performance across operations within budget.
- Maintain cost control and operational metrics for the required scorecard.
Transport and Customer Service
- Execute vehicle scheduling, route planning, and employee transportation management.
- Manage transport suppliers, including quotes for new routes and ad hoc transport requests.
- Improve service to internal customers while maintaining performance for end users.
- Manage the transport risk register covering reported issues and vehicle risks.
- Assess driver and staff performance and report strengths and development areas.
People and Technology
- Train, appraise, and motivate staff to support effective team management.
- Lead deployment of smart routing and scheduling using GPS and transport management system tools.
- Implement changes to working conditions and vehicle use to increase operational efficiency.
Selection Criteria
- A degree in Logistics is required.
- A bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Experience in large fleet transport operations is required.
- Passenger transport experience is advantageous.
- At least 5 years of experience in a transport-related vocation is required.
