Job Purpose
The Technical Product Owner is the front door to product engineering teams and owns backlogs covering features, non-functional requirements, business-as-usual work, technical debt, spikes, and ceremonies.
The API Specialist supports the API Hub operating model by coordinating strategy and execution, managing dependencies, and ensuring API initiatives are prioritized and aligned with enterprise standards.
The role serves as a primary point of contact for API stakeholders, communities, and enablement activities.
In This Role, You Will
- Own story content, acceptance criteria, and final story sign-off across team backlogs.
- Capture and prioritize technical debt, non-functional requirements, BAU, ceremonies, and spikes within available capacity.
- Maintain feature quality and identify risks and dependencies for the Product Portfolio backlog.
- Contribute to PI demos, PI Planning, Product Management meetings, and Product Owner communities.
- Define success metrics for prioritized work and support continuous improvement.
- Identify team innovation ideas and consolidate them for the Technical Product Manager community.
- Coordinate API Hub strategy and execution while acting as the primary API stakeholder contact.
Qualifications
- Degree or Honours qualification in IT.
- At least 5 years of Information Technology experience, including at least 2 years as a Product Owner or Product Manager.
- Proven record of driving measurable change and delivery at pace.
- Global Product training or certification such as CSPO, SAFe, or PSPO.
- Demonstrated technical or domain expertise and awareness of regulatory changes in the relevant area.
- Experience contributing to a large-scale API program.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of API-first and API-as-a-Product concepts, REST or asynchronous APIs, OpenAPI, and event-driven patterns.
- Knowledge of API lifecycle governance, API gateways, developer portals, API catalogues, and API developer experience.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, automation, platform engineering, GitLab CI, Artifactory or Nexus, Docker, Terraform, and Ansible.
- Strong understanding of API security by design principles and OWASP10-2025.
- Experience with Scaled Agile frameworks is advantageous but not essential.
- Kong API Gateway is a nice-to-have skill.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, collaboration, and customer-centric value identification skills.
