Role Overview

Provide hands-on administration for Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server.

Own installation, configuration, performance, backup and recovery, high availability, security, monitoring, and production support.

The role requires 10 or more years of experience.

Core Database Administration

  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Administer databases across development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Monitor database health, performance, availability, storage, and capacity.
  • Perform tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting.

Backup, Recovery, and Availability

  • Manage backup and recovery strategies and validate backup integrity.
  • Configure Oracle Data Guard, RAC, and applicable high-availability or disaster-recovery solutions.
  • Manage SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication, and log shipping.
  • Support disaster recovery testing and database restoration.

Production Support and Security

  • Handle production incidents, problems, and service requests.
  • Manage users, roles, privileges, authentication, and database security.
  • Monitor jobs, alerts, sessions, locks, blocking, deadlocks, and resource utilization.
  • Participate in 24x7 production support or on-call activities when required.

Collaboration and Documentation

  • Work with application, infrastructure, cloud, and development teams to resolve database issues.
  • Maintain database documentation, SOPs, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
  • Ensure databases meet organizational security, availability, and audit requirements.

Oracle Skills

  • Required Oracle skills include versions 11g, 12c, 18c, 19c, or 21c, installation, patching, upgrades, RMAN, Data Guard, RAC, AWR, ASH, ADDM, OEM, SQL, and PL/SQL troubleshooting.
  • Manage tablespaces, schemas, users, roles, privileges, Oracle ASM, storage, migrations, and disaster recovery.

Microsoft SQL Server Skills

  • Required SQL Server skills include versions 2016, 2017, 2019, or 2022, installation, patching, upgrades, backup and restore, recovery models, and maintenance plans.
  • Manage performance tuning, indexes, statistics, Always On, clustering, replication, log shipping, Agent jobs, alerts, security, migrations, and disaster recovery.

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix and Windows Server environments is required.
  • Good understanding of storage, SAN/NAS, networking, and server infrastructure is required.
  • Experience with OEM, SSMS, Grafana, Splunk, or similar monitoring tools is requested.
  • Shell, PowerShell, or Python automation is advantageous.
  • Cloud database experience with Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS, or Azure SQL is an added advantage.
  • ITIL or production support experience is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills are required.
