Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical systems design and integration from concept through final design.
• Develop mechanical plans and specifications aligned with architectural designs and structural constraints.
• Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing for optimal performance and efficiency.
• Use Revit and BIM tools to create detailed 3D mechanical system models.
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and construction disciplines.
• Incorporate sustainable design principles and pursue certifications such as LEED or WELL.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes, industry standards, and safety regulations.
• Identify and mitigate design risks, safety hazards, system failures, and non-compliance.
• Lead design reviews and value engineering sessions to improve cost-effectiveness and constructability.
• Improve design processes and tools to increase efficiency and deliverable quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 12 years of mechanical design engineering experience focused on building systems.
• At least 10 years of experience working on healthcare projects.
• At least five years of experience in a consulting engineering environment.
• Proven experience leading complex mechanical systems design and delivery in healthcare facilities.
• Experience designing firefighting, HVAC, plumbing, storm water, irrigation, treatment plant, medical gas, and LPG systems.
• Fluency in English.
• Awareness of local Abu Dhabi regulations and authorities, including ADDC, ADWEA, ADSCC, SEHA, and HAAD.
• Professional certifications such as PE, PQP, LEED AP, CEng, or CPM are highly desirable.

Technical Skills

• Healthcare and laboratory HVAC design based on ASHRAE 170, 62.1, and 90.1 standards.
• Firefighting system design based on UAE Life and Safety codes.
• Medical gas system design based on HTM 02-01.
• Stormwater, public health, sewage, irrigation, treatment plant, and LPG system design.
• RIBA Stage 1 through Stage 4 project delivery awareness.
• Awareness of Estidama and green building guidelines.
• Experience with Carrier HAP, CFD modeling using PyroSim or FDS, Revit, AutoCAD, equipment selection software, and firefighting pump head calculation software.
