Role overview

The Senior Health and Safety Coordinator will join a growing civil construction business serving infrastructure projects across Ontario.

The role mitigates risk through investigations, audits, site inspections, regulatory compliance, worker orientations, and safety documentation.

The coordinator serves as an HSE contact for employees, clients, subcontractors, unions, government entities, and inspectors.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform investigations, incident reviews, accident investigations, and audits.
  • Ensure job-site compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Audit site safety performance, recommend corrective actions, and follow up on implementation.
  • Participate in investigations to determine causes and corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct orientations for new and returning workers.
  • Organize and participate in corporate health and safety committee meetings.
  • Accompany third-party inspectors and oversee compliance with inspection findings.
  • File safety documentation and track submissions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Work with human resources to create and update company policies.
  • Maintain compliant safety equipment and complete respirator fit testing.
  • Assist with COR audits, complete site-specific safety plans, and conduct monthly site inspections.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • 4-6 years of experience in a safety role.
  • Construction-environment experience is required.
  • Additional health and safety certifications are highly valued.
  • Working toward the NCSO is an asset.
  • Strong communication and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to mitigate risks.

Compensation and benefits

  • Base salary is stated as $100,000 to $120,000, plus potential bonus, benefits, and an RSP.
  • The role includes a company vehicle and potential long-term progression to Health and Safety Manager.
