Senior Accountant - FLIGHT FORWARDING COMPANY

Role Overview

Accounting and Billing

• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, receipts, payments, journal entries, and daily accounting transactions.
• Account for air and sea freight charges, customs and clearance costs, handling, storage, documentation, and other logistics expenses.
• Prepare and verify invoices using shipment details, quotations, AWBs, freight rates, and credit terms.
• Monitor customer balances and collections and process vendor invoices from logistics service providers.

Reconciliations and Cost Control

• Reconcile vendor, customer, bank, shipping-line, and general ledger accounts.
• Maintain shipment-related revenue and expense records and allocate costs to the correct shipment or job.
• Review job profitability by comparing revenue with freight and operational costs.
• Coordinate with operations, sales, procurement, and customer service to resolve billing and cost discrepancies.

Reporting and Closing

• Prepare monthly management accounts, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash-flow reports, and financial analysis.
• Support month-end and year-end closing, including accruals, provisions, prepayments, depreciation, and adjustments.
• Monitor cash flow and working capital and assist management with financial planning and pricing decisions.
• Prepare financial reports and provide information for business and pricing decisions.

Compliance and Team Support

• Ensure compliance with applicable VAT, tax, and accounting requirements.
• Support external auditors, internal audits, and tax or VAT audits with documents and reconciliations.
• Maintain financial documentation and internal controls and identify errors, control weaknesses, and process improvements.
• Supervise junior accountants and review their accounting entries and work.

Key Skills Required

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience with freight forwarding, shipping-line, or logistics accounting.
• Understanding of air-freight and sea-freight billing and shipment costing.
• VAT and tax knowledge, advanced Excel, and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
• Strong reconciliation, analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
• Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end closing.
• At least three years of experience in a UAE flight-forwarding company.

Compensation

• Pay is AED 4,500 to AED 6,000 per month.
