Position Overview

Personal Support Worker position in the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Toronto General Hospital.

The PSW works as part of an inter-professional care team and reports to the department manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with feeding, transfers, bathing, skin care, oral hygiene, and toileting.
  • Perform appropriately delegated tasks under RN or RPN oversight.
  • Communicate information according to patients' pre-established Plans of Care.
  • Report unsafe conditions and patient behavioral, physical, or cognitive changes.
  • Document safety concerns and maintain patient records and progress notes.
  • Follow hospital policies and procedures for patient safety and delegated care.

Requirements

  • Current HSCPOA registration is required.
  • Completion of an accredited community college PSW program or recent UHN-approved private career college program is required.
  • A current BCLS certificate is required.
  • The role requires capacity for regular standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and other physical movement.
  • Behavioral management training such as PIECES, U-First, or CPI is an asset.
  • Acute care or rehabilitation experience is an asset.

Compensation

  • The wage range is $31.70 to $32.61 per hour.
  • The start rate is non-negotiable and follows collective agreement requirements.

Schedule

  • The position is permanent part-time for up to 24 hours per week.
  • Days, evenings, and nights are required.

Workplace

  • The role is based at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.
  • The position supports care delivery in a medical-surgical intensive care setting.
