Packaging Machine Operator - Nights

General Job Description

Location and Schedule

• The position is located in Franklin, Wisconsin.
• The role is full-time and works a night shift from 5:45 PM until 6:00 AM.
• The schedule is a 12-hour 2-2-3 rotation, including every other weekend.
• Mandatory overtime may be required.

Compensation

• The starting rate for this full-time hourly position is $22.50 per hour.

Machine Operation and Maintenance

• Operate packaging machinery continuously and maintain product flow to packaging lines.
• Set up machines, troubleshoot issues, perform changeovers, make procedural adjustments, sanitize equipment, and complete shutdowns.
• Write or edit bag-maker programs and machine micro logic as needed.
• Perform preventive maintenance, minor scale repairs, span calibration, and adjustments to scales and formers.
• Operate baggers, scales, counting conveyors, seal checkers, weight checks, case packers, and other auxiliary equipment.

Production and Quality Control

• Maintain shift documentation, including metal detector and batch order verifications.
• Read production schedules and interpret schedules in MicroStrategy.
• Print labels using the correct program and maintain printers.
• Perform nitrogen testing and monitor codes, dates, prices, film cuts, and bag seals.
• Maintain roll stock and packaging materials and keep machines running at standard speeds.
• Perform bag weight checks every 20 minutes, inspect product quality, resolve issues, and rework acceptable product.

Safety and Housekeeping

• Maintain clean machines and work areas and keep aisles and exits clear of obstructions.
• Follow safe lifting, carrying, housekeeping, hygiene, and personal-protection procedures.
• Report equipment issues and job-related injuries to the appropriate technician or supervisor.
• Provide leadership to packers or serve as a backup Packaging Coordinator when qualified.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
• One year of production experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
• The role requires the ability to follow directions and routines, concentrate, analyze data, solve problems, and work independently with appropriate judgment.
• The role requires the ability to read, write, and comprehend numbers and words.

Physical Requirements

• Standing is continuous, walking is frequent, and climbing and ladder climbing are occasional.
• Using hands, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, and fine motor manipulation are frequent or continuous requirements.
• The role requires lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds frequently and heavier loads with assistance.

Work Environment

• The work environment includes moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, loud noise, and occasional high or precarious places.
• The role may involve fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals.
