General Description

This is a senior, hands-on role covering advanced diagnostics, hydraulic repairs, installations, commissioning, and technical support across a rental fleet.

The role provides technical authority on fluid power systems and supports equipment reliability and fleet availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and hydraulic rental fleet equipment.
  • Lead teardown, failure analysis, overhaul, and complex repairs of hydraulic components and power units.
  • Perform testing, calibration, commissioning, diagnostics, and fault finding on hydraulic systems.
  • Respond to customer breakdowns and perform mobile repairs at customer sites.
  • Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis and recommend corrective actions.
  • Read hydraulic and electrical schematics and manufacture, install, and pressure-test hose assemblies.
  • Maintain contamination-control standards and complete detailed maintenance and commissioning records.
  • Mentor junior technicians and support workload planning and continuous improvement.

Specialist Equipment Knowledge

  • Advanced working knowledge is required for ABI foundation equipment, including piling and drilling rigs, rotary heads, crowd systems, control valves, winches, slew systems, and CAN Bus diagnostics.
  • Experience is required with SANY crawler crane hydraulic systems, including winches, boom hoists, swing drives, travel motors, pilot controls, and load-sensing circuits.
  • Experience is required with Kubota drilling rigs, including rotary drives, feed and pull-down circuits, stabilizers, power packs, pumps, motors, and cylinders.
  • Knowledge is required of ABI and ICE vibro hammer systems, including vibration motors, clamp systems, accumulators, cooling systems, and hydraulic power packs.

Qualification Requirements

  • Trade certification in Mechanical Fitting, Fluid Power, Hydraulic Engineering, or an equivalent recognized trade qualification.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with hydraulic troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, and installations.
  • Experience with heavy mobile plant, construction equipment, foundation equipment, or industrial hydraulic systems.
  • Advanced hydraulic diagnostics, schematic interpretation, CAN Bus diagnostics, contamination control, and commissioning skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, communication, and independent-working abilities.

Working Conditions

  • Work takes place indoors and outdoors in workshops, construction sites, and customer locations.
  • The role involves noise, high-pressure hydraulic systems, mechanical hazards, heavy components, varying environmental conditions, and regular regional travel.
  • Extended hours and emergency breakdown response may be required.
