Hydraulic Technician

General Description

Core Responsibilities

• Lead installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, compressors, generators, hydraulic power packs, and associated rental equipment.
• Lead teardown, failure analysis, overhaul, and complex repair of hydraulic components and power units.
• Perform testing, calibration, and commissioning using flow meters, pressure transducers, contamination monitors, particle counters, and electronic diagnostic tools.
• Respond to customer breakdowns and perform mobile repairs at customer sites.
• Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis and recommend permanent corrective actions.
• Read hydraulic and electrical schematics, manufacture and pressure-test hose assemblies, and maintain contamination-control standards.
• Maintain detailed maintenance, repair, inspection, commissioning, and testing records.
• Mentor Level 1 and Level 2 technicians and support workload planning and technical improvement initiatives.

Specialist Equipment Knowledge

• ABI equipment knowledge includes piling and drilling rigs, rotary heads, crowd systems, mast circuits, clamps, winches, slew systems, CAN Bus diagnostics, and hydraulic commissioning.
• SANY crawler crane knowledge includes winches, boom hoists, swing drives, travel motors, track drives, pilot controls, load sensing, and safety interlocks.
• Kubota drilling rig knowledge includes rotary drives, feed and pull-down circuits, stabilizers, power packs, pumps, motors, cylinders, and commissioning.
• Vibro hammer knowledge includes ABI Vibro Hammers and ICE Vibro Equipment, including vibration motors, clamps, accumulators, cooling systems, and hydraulic power packs.

Qualification Requirements

• Trade certification in Mechanical Fitting, Fluid Power, Hydraulic Engineering, or an equivalent recognized trade qualification.
• At least 5 years of hands-on hydraulic troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and installation experience.
• Experience with heavy mobile plant, construction equipment, foundation equipment, or industrial hydraulic systems.
• Skill using hydraulic testers, pressure gauges, flow meters, and contamination monitoring equipment.
• Extensive knowledge of hydraulic theory, fluid dynamics, system behavior, and complex OEM fault diagnosis.
• Experience with CAN Bus diagnostic systems is highly desirable.
• Essential skills include hydraulic diagnostics, schematic interpretation, electro-hydraulics, load sensing, commissioning, contamination control, and Root Cause Failure Analysis.
• The role requires leadership, mentoring, independent work, problem-solving, communication, and CMMS or ERP computer literacy.

Working Conditions

• Work includes noisy workshops, construction sites, high-pressure hydraulic systems, and mechanical hazards.
• The role involves lifting moderate to heavy components and working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
• Technicians may work extended hours and respond to emergency breakdowns.
• Regular travel to customer sites is required, with prolonged standing, kneeling, climbing, and work around heavy machinery.
