Hydraulic Technician

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Lead installation, maintenance, and repair of pumps, compressors, generators, hydraulic power packs, and rental fleet equipment.
• Lead teardown, failure analysis, overhaul, and complex hydraulic repairs.
• Test, calibrate, and commission systems using flow meters, pressure transducers, contamination monitors, particle counters, and electronic diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic and electro-hydraulic components and systems.
• Respond to customer breakdowns and perform mobile repairs on site.
• Conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
• Manufacture, install, and pressure-test hydraulic hose assemblies.
• Maintain hydraulic cleanliness and contamination control.
• Follow OEM specifications, safety procedures, PPE, LOTO, and company quality standards.
• Maintain detailed maintenance, repair, inspection, commissioning, and testing records.
• Mentor technicians and support workload planning and continuous improvement.

Specialist Equipment Knowledge

• Advanced diagnostics and hydraulic systems knowledge for ABI foundation equipment and piling and drilling rigs.
• Knowledge of SANY crawler crane winch, boom hoist, swing drive, travel motor, track drive, pilot control, and load-sensing systems.
• Knowledge of Kubota drilling rig rotary drive, feed, stabilizer, power pack, pump, motor, and cylinder systems.
• Knowledge of ABI and ICE vibro hammer systems, including vibration motors, clamps, power packs, accumulators, and cooling systems.
• CAN Bus diagnostics, schematic interpretation, pressure and flow testing, and hydraulic commissioning are used across specialist equipment.

Qualification Requirements

• Trade certification in mechanical fitting, fluid power, hydraulic engineering, or an equivalent recognized trade qualification.
• At least 5 years of hands-on hydraulic systems experience covering troubleshooting, repairs, overhauls, and installations.
• Experience with heavy mobile plant, construction equipment, foundation equipment, or industrial hydraulic systems.
• Experience using hydraulic testers, pressure gauges, flow meters, and contamination monitoring equipment.
• Extensive knowledge of hydraulic theory, fluid dynamics, and system behavior.
• Proven experience diagnosing complex hydraulic faults on OEM equipment.
• CAN Bus diagnostic systems experience is highly desirable.
• Advanced troubleshooting, schematic interpretation, electro-hydraulic, load-sensing, CAN Bus, contamination control, RCFA, and commissioning skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, leadership, mentoring, problem-solving, communication, and independent working ability.
• Computer literacy including CMMS or ERP systems.

Working Conditions

• Work may take place in noisy workshops, construction sites, indoors, outdoors, and around high-pressure hydraulic and mechanical hazards.
• The role requires lifting hydraulic components and prolonged standing, kneeling, climbing, and work around heavy machinery.
• Regular travel to customer sites, extended hours, and emergency breakdown response may be required.
