Solus Canada is an Aviva Canada subsidiary operating a network of Aviva-owned auto body collision repair shops across Ontario and Quebec, with plans for national expansion.
The role operates in a fast-paced auto collision repair environment serving employees and visitors across multiple shop locations.
Opportunity
The Health & Safety Manager will lead all aspects of Solus Canada’s distinct health and safety program.
The role will build and implement a new Health and Safety Management System aligned with provincial regulations, Aviva and Group standards, governance reporting, audit requirements, and employee and visitor welfare.
Health and safety leadership
- Design, develop, and maintain the Health and Safety Management System for the auto body collision repair environment.
- Investigate incidents, hazards, and risks; coordinate corrective action; and escalate critical incidents when appropriate.
- Partner with senior executives and stakeholders to drive safety initiatives, regulatory compliance, and a proactive safety culture.
Training, audits, and site support
- Develop safety training programs and coordinate legislative training such as First Aid and Joint Health and Safety Committee certification.
- Direct safety committees, representatives, managers, and regional leads in administration, audits, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Conduct shop visits, vendor reviews, audits, risk assessments, and inspections across multiple locations.
- Collaborate with HR, Risk, Facilities, Operations, and shop management to address safety risks and achieve compliance.
- Prepare safety communications, employee engagement programs, and updates for Solus leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.
- First Aid Training and computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Minimum five years of progressive experience in a health and safety management role.
- Knowledge of national health and safety legislation, health and safety management systems, risk analysis, regulatory compliance, and auto repair processes.
- Bilingual English and French capability is preferred.
- Automotive repair sector experience is preferred, and project management experience is an asset.
Compensation and benefits
- The salary band ranges from $90,000 to $120,000, with individual salary determined by knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
