Role Overview

  • Support the organisation in fostering a Just Culture and promote safety and wellbeing of customers, staff, assets and environment.
  • Participate in development and roll out of Health, safety and fire safety improvement programme and behavioural change initiatives.
  • Provide health, safety and fire safety support, technical guidance and advice to functional departments.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support Health and Safety Manager in developing and maintaining integrated management systems for health and safety in accordance with ISO 45001.
  • Provision of technical guidance and advice to functional departments on Integrated Management System requirements.
  • Support departments in identification and understanding of health, safety and fire safety compliance arrangements.
  • Develop and implement active monitoring programme including workplace and site inspections.
  • Support functional departments in development and implementation of safety performance indicators.
  • Monitor and report on employee Return to Work programmes where required.
  • Support development, review and deliver of safety training courses.
  • Support development and monitor effectiveness of safety controls to prevent injury, illness, damage.
  • Support and/or coordinate emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Assess and evaluate health and safety aspect of Procurement tender submissions.
  • Undertake On Call duties and report notifiable incidents.
  • Lead/Conduct incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions.

Knowledge Required

  • Knowledge of railway organisational structures and standards, workflows, procedures and terminology (Preferred).
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of safety related legislations.
  • Working knowledge of relevant Safety and Environment legislation and Standards and Compliance.
  • Working knowledge of railway organisational structures and standards, workflows, procedures and terminology.
  • Good understanding of recognised ISO standards for occupational health, safety & fire (NFPA 130).

  • Detailed experience in preparation and review of Risk Assessments.

  • Regulatory interpretation and application skills.
  • Effective procedural development skills.
  • Auditing and/or investigation skills.

Experiences

  • Minimum three years, preferably five years, of work experience as a Health and Safety Officer preferably in the transport industry.
  • Experience in supporting health and safety efforts and providing expert information, advice and training.

Educational Qualifications

  • Ideally a degree holder with qualifications in NEBOSH Health and Safety Diploma or NEBOSH Health and Safety Certificate working towards Diploma.
