The Head Coach, Velodrome is responsible for leading the coaching workforce across cycling and infield sports at Velodrome Abu Dhabi.
The role provides overall leadership, development, and performance management of all coaches, ensuring high coaching standards, structured development pathways, and consistent delivery quality across all programmes.
The position serves as the primary cycling technical authority for the venue and leads the design and delivery of cycling course structures, session frameworks, and coaching methodologies within the programme architecture defined by the Sports Manager.
The role also includes direct coaching delivery, with a focus on advanced and signature cycling sessions requiring senior expertise, including track cycling programmes.
The Head Coach is expected to deliver across cycling disciplines and support infield sports delivery where required.
In addition, the role contributes technical expertise and strategic recommendations to the Sports Manager to support programme development, workforce planning, and overall venue performance.
1. Coaching Workforce Leadership
- Lead and manage the coaching workforce across cycling and infield sports
- Conduct mentoring, performance reviews, and coaching observations
- Oversee professional development and continuous improvement of coaches
- Ensure consistency in coaching standards, safety, and participant experience
2. Coaching Standards & Quality
- Maintain coaching standards across the venue’s coaching workforce
- Ensure compliance with safety, professional conduct, and credentialling requirements
- Oversee coaching quality assurance while allowing sport-specific technical autonomy for specialist coaches
3. Coach Development & Credentialling
- Develop structured coach development pathways
- Manage continuing professional development (CPD) programmes
- Oversee coach credentialling and progression frameworks
4. Cycling Technical Authority
- Act as the primary technical authority for cycling coaching
- Define and uphold cycling coaching standards and rider development frameworks
- Ensure high-quality delivery of cycling programmes
5. Programme Design & Delivery
- Design course structures, session plans, and coaching methodologies
- Develop skill progressions within the Sports Manager’s programme framework
- Ensure alignment of coaching delivery with strategic programme objectives
6. Personal Coaching Delivery
- Deliver advanced and signature cycling sessions and courses
- Provide high-level technical coaching in track cycling
- Support infield sports coaching delivery when required
7. Workforce & Programme Strategy
- Provide recommendations on coaching capacity and workforce planning
- Contribute to programme development and strategic coaching decisions
- Support evolution of coaching frameworks and delivery models
8. Culture, Ethics & Safeguarding
- Promote coaching integrity, professional ethics, and safeguarding standards
- Act as operational lead for safeguarding within cycling and sport programmes
- Escalate governance, external reporting, and high-risk matters to Sports Manager
9. Bike Workshop & Equipment Oversight
- Provide line management to bike workshop staff
- Oversee cycling equipment standards and workshop operations
- Provide technical input on procurement and fleet management decisions
10. Stakeholder & Federation Coordination
- Support engagement with cycling federations, governing bodies, and partners
- Coordinate with Sport Coordinator for coach deployment and scheduling
- Maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
11. Reporting & Performance Monitoring
- Provide regular reports on coach performance, rider progression, and programme delivery
- Report workforce performance insights and recommendations to Sports Manager
- Support tracking of programme effectiveness and improvements
12. Events & Commercial Support
- Support delivery of cycling competitions and in-house events
- Contribute to venue commercial success through programme quality and engagement
13. Compliance & Operational Support
- Ensure compliance with statutory, federation, and organisational requirements
- Provide coverage for Sport Coordinator when required
- Undertake additional duties as required by management
Essential
- Degree/Diploma (or equivalent) in Sport Coaching, Sports Science, Sport Management, Recreation, or related field OR equivalent experience
- UCI Level 2 Cycling Coaching Qualification (including track cycling certification)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or willingness to obtain
Preferred
- Postgraduate qualification in a related discipline
- UCI Level 3 or equivalent NGB coaching qualification
- Additional sports coaching qualifications
- Safeguarding certification

- Multi-sport coaching exposure at developmental or recreational levels
Experience
- Minimum 7+ years coaching experience in cycling (track cycling essential)
- Experience leading coaching teams and workforce development
- Experience in rider assessment, progression, and development pathways
- Experience designing structured coaching programmes
- Experience working in multicultural and inclusive sporting environments
- Knowledge of sport federation standards and governance frameworks
