Project and Employer

Aecon is delivering infrastructure, energy, industrial, and nuclear projects through its Construction and Concessions segment.

CanAtom, a joint venture between AtkinsRéalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project with Ontario Power Generation.

The project includes retube, feeder, and boiler replacement for Units 5–8.

Role Overview

The EHS Advisor reports to the EHS Director through departmental leads.

The role provides health and safety advice and assistance to project line supervisors.

The advisor audits project EHS programs and supports corrective actions to continuously improve workplace health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project-specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures.
  • Conduct inspections, field observations, behavior-based observations, site audits, and safety meetings.
  • Train project staff on hot work, working at heights, dropped object prevention, confined spaces, electrical equipment, ergonomics, and related procedures.
  • Track safety statistics and support return-to-work and modified-duty cases.
  • Collect heat-stress readings, communicate hazards, and suggest controls to supervision and construction teams.
  • Support Human Performance activities and assist with Safe Work Plans, JSAs, high hazard assessments, material handling plans, lift plans, and pre-job briefs.
  • Provide feedback to EHS management on the status of the EHS management system.

Qualifications and Conditions

  • At least 3 years of health and safety experience in construction is required.
  • Relevant post-secondary education or equivalent health and safety experience is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, SiteDocs, and Cority is required.
  • CHSO, CRSP, CRST, or CSP designation is an asset.
  • Experience delivering EHS training programs is an asset.
  • OPG security clearance is an asset.
  • The role requires field work, including walking more than 3 km per day, climbing at least 3 flights of stairs, and occasionally climbing ladders.
  • The role requires flexibility for shift work, extended hours, and occasional weekend or night work.
  • The successful candidate must work within a nuclear environment and meet mandated nuclear export control requirements.
  • Security clearance, background, and reference checks are required.

Pay

  • The pay range is $45–$55 per hour.
  • Individual pay depends on work location, education, experience, skills, certifications, training, and role complexity.

Workplace

  • The role is field-based on the Pickering nuclear refurbishment project.
  • The position involves work in a nuclear environment and direct observation of field activities.
