Role Overview

The Design Manager leads day-to-day landscape and public-realm design management from early concept through detailed and IFC delivery.

The role is responsible for design excellence, commercial control, quality, and interdisciplinary integration.

Design Management and Leadership

  • Plan, manage, and deliver projects within approved time, fee, and quality parameters.
  • Monitor fee utilisation, scope changes, resources, deliverables, risks, and change-control actions.
  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary Landscape, Irrigation, BIM, Visualisation, CAD, and Environmental teams.
  • Implement QA/QC, peer review, internal QMS, and ISO 9001 processes.
  • Coordinate civil, MEP, infrastructure, architecture, structure, and interior design integration.
  • Represent the landscape discipline in client and consultant meetings.
  • Contribute to proposals, including scopes, methodologies, management plans, deliverables, and budgets.
  • Maintain meeting minutes, design-change logs, coordination trackers, and risk registers.

Design and Technical Expertise

  • Oversee landscape reports, drawings, hardscape and softscape packages, irrigation and grading plans, planting strategies, sustainability narratives, and material schedules.
  • Ensure tender and IFC documentation meets authority standards including RCRC, MOMRA, SBC, and DM requirements.
  • Lead BIM integration using Revit LA, Civil 3D, and Navisworks, including model coordination and LOD compliance.
  • Review sub-consultant deliverables and coordinate with Architecture, Structure, MEP, Infrastructure, and ID teams.
  • Develop specifications, BOQs, cost schedules, value-engineering inputs, tender evaluations, and site-support inputs.
  • Champion digital design, visualisation, sustainable materials, and current design codes and standards.

Communication and Operations

  • Lead client presentations, design workshops, and coordination reviews.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear visual and verbal narratives.
  • Maintain relationships with clients, partners, and authorities.
  • Report weekly on schedules, deliverables, resource allocation, programme tracking, and risks.
  • Support internal standards, templates, digital workflows, QA reviews, knowledge sharing, and structured CPD.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects and contribute to client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from a recognised university is required.
  • Professional accreditation or eligibility such as CMLI, ASLA, or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of total experience, including at least three years in GCC design management.
  • Strong knowledge of landscape design principles, construction techniques, and regional authority codes.
  • Demonstrated success managing large-scale public-realm projects.
  • Proficiency in Revit LA, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Microsoft Project, and BIM 360.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, prioritise workloads, and deliver under pressure.
  • Fluent written and spoken English; Arabic applies where relevant.
