Role Overview
The Benefits Analyst provides group benefits consulting support for existing medium and large clients and prospects.
The role works with internal consulting teams and vendors to support client deliverables and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Support the design and management of medical, dental, life, disability, and special risk benefits.
- Conduct annual renewal analysis and carrier negotiations.
- Prepare client reports, presentations, experience reports, budget projections, and ad hoc analyses.
- Review plan financial performance, financial statements, and underwriting agreement compliance.
- Gather data and assess the cost impact of plan design changes.
- Conduct marketing analyses, benchmarking studies, and cost comparisons.
- Build relationships with clients, carriers, and cross-functional teams.
- Support union bargaining, carrier transitions, and consulting team deliverables.
- Participate in industry conferences and seminars to keep informed about industry trends.
Requirements
- Have a minimum of two years of experience in group benefits.
- Know the Canadian benefits industry and financial underwriting requirements for employee benefit plans.
- Advanced competency with Microsoft Excel is required, along with proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Post-secondary education in mathematics or finance is an asset.
- Public-sector experience in hospitals, healthcare, or municipalities is an asset.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, communication, prioritization, and confidentiality skills.
Compensation
- The base salary is between $65,000 and $85,000 annually.
- The stated base salary excludes other variable compensation such as annual bonus and commission.
