Backend Software Engineer

Location and Work Environment

• The role is based in Austin, Texas, or Phoenix, Arizona.
• The position works with teams across multiple geographies and functions and requires strong communication and organizational skills.
• Periodic domestic or international travel to divisions, customer sites, events, and ASSA ABLOY offices is expected, up to 10%.

Role Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop TypeScript backend services using NestJS or similar frameworks.
• Contribute to architecture decisions for scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Build APIs and backend services for data-driven and ML-enabled features.
• Develop data access layers with Prisma or equivalent ORM technologies.
• Containerize services with Docker and support enterprise-managed deployments.
• Mature prototypes and MVPs into production-ready systems.
• Meet enterprise standards for performance, security, and operational stability.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and technical documentation.
• Balance rapid iteration with enterprise engineering practices.

Required Qualifications

• At least three years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience with NestJS or a similar Node.js framework such as Express or Fastify.
• Experience with Prisma or another modern ORM library.
• Practical Docker experience in development and production environments.
• Experience taking an MVP or prototype to production.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture, API design, and database fundamentals.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines in a product-focused team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python.
• Familiarity with Angular.
• Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Experience supporting data-intensive or ML-enabled applications.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment workflows.
