Sphere Recruitment is hiring a Senior Manager, Urban Design in Abu Dhabi.
This is a senior leadership opportunity focused on major master planning, destination, mixed-use, waterfront and large-scale development projects.
The role leads urban design thinking from early visioning and concept development through master planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead urban design concepts, spatial strategies, block structures and development frameworks.
- Shape neighbourhoods, districts, public realm, movement networks, built form and density strategies.
- Develop placemaking, character strategies, design principles and urban design guidelines.
- Lead multidisciplinary workshops with architecture, landscape, transport, infrastructure and development teams.
- Review and challenge master plans and design proposals for quality and alignment with project objectives.
- Present strategies and recommendations to senior leadership, government authorities and project stakeholders.
- Mentor junior designers and contribute to design standards and best practice.
Experience and Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in urban design, master planning or city planning.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in urban design, urban planning, architecture or a related discipline.
- Experience on large-scale master planned communities, mixed-use districts, waterfronts, destinations or urban regeneration projects.
- Strong expertise in placemaking, walkability, public realm, urban structure, density, movement networks and development frameworks.
- Experience taking projects from visioning through master planning and approvals.
- GCC or comparable international market experience.
Tools and Additional Skills
- Strong proficiency in Rhino, SketchUp, AutoCAD, ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with parametric design, GIS analysis or AI-enabled design workflows is advantageous.
- Strong client, stakeholder and presentation skills are required.
- Experience engaging developers, government authorities or major public-sector clients is highly desirable.

- The position is located in Abu Dhabi.
