Responsibilities
- Provide professional operator assistance in a 24 hour call center, patient information, transfer to department doctors' offices, and assist with staff and patients with making long distance calls.
- Listen to customer requests, referring to alphabetical or geographical directories to answer questions and provide telephone information.
- Search files, databases or reference materials to obtain needed information.
- Answer telephones to direct calls or provide information.
- Operate telephone switchboards and systems to advance and complete connections, including those for local, long distance, pay telephone, mobile, person to person, and emergency calls.
- Interrupt busy lines if an emergency warrants.
- Offer special assistance to persons such as those who are unable to dial or who are in emergency situations.
- Operate paging systems or other systems of bells or buzzers to notify recipients of incoming calls.
- Update directory information and enter information into databases or software programs.
- Keep records of calls placed and received, and of related toll charges.
- Implement appropriate policies and procedures to achieve the Hospital's goals and objectives in pursuit of Standards of Care, Quality/Performance Improvement.
- Perform any other tasks within his/her competence as directed by the Call Center Manager.
