Role Overview

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree in a related subject with PGCE or an equivalent teaching qualification is required.
• A minimum of 1–2 years of classroom teaching experience in the American Curriculum is required.

Teaching and Learning

• Plan, prepare, and present sessions for the full ability range within the class.
• Organise classroom provision and learning resources and create positive, engaging displays.
• Motivate pupils through enthusiastic and imaginative teaching.
• Observe and assess children and adjust the environment, planning, and curriculum based on progress.
• Meet with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists when required.
• Embed the Virginia American School Teacher and Learner DNA language and attitudes throughout the curriculum.

Assessment and Data

• Take responsibility for the progress of the class.
• Meet assessment and recording requirements for student development using Target Tracker.
• Use assessment data to influence planning, provision, and intervention.
• Provide parents and carers with feedback at conferences and other meetings.

Behaviour and Professional Duties

• Follow the school’s behaviour policy and manage classes effectively.
• Maintain positive relationships, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary.
• Model the positive attitudes, values, behaviour, self-control, and independence expected of pupils.
• Support curriculum action groups, school events, outings, and activities, including occasional weekend or evening activities.
• Communicate student achievement and well-being through school systems such as CPOMS.
• Run a weekly extracurricular activity each term.
