Responsibilities
- Teaching and Learning
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge across the humanities curriculum, delivering high quality teaching across Key Stage 3 humanities subjects, including geography, history and related disciplines where required.
- Teach Geography as a specialist subject at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, preparing students for GCSE and A Level Geography qualifications.
- Deliver engaging and well-structured lessons that develop students’ geographical knowledge, enquiry skills, critical thinking and understanding of global issues.
- Plan and deliver schemes of work aligned with the UK National Curriculum at KS3 and with examination board requirements for GCSE and A Level Geography.
- Prepare students effectively for external qualifications including (I)GCSE and A Level Geography.
- Develop students’ understanding of physical and human geography, environmental sustainability, global development and spatial thinking.
- Promote geographical enquiry through investigation, research, data interpretation and where appropriate fieldwork activities.
- Provide high quality guidance and feedback during coursework and assessments to ensure students meet examination requirements.
- Plan lessons and sequences of learning that meet the needs of all learners, ensuring appropriate challenge and support across the full ability range.
- Use assessment effectively to monitor student progress, inform planning and support students in achieving their potential.
- Develop students’ independence, resilience and analytical thinking through enquiry-based learning.
- Create stimulating classroom environments and displays that support learning in humanities and geography.
- Use a range of teaching strategies, including digital technology and blended learning approaches, to enhance student engagement and progress.
- Support the needs of all learners including POD (SEN), EAL and G&T students through effective differentiation and inclusive teaching practices.
- Contribute to the development of the humanities curriculum and the continued growth of Geography at KS4 and KS5.

Assessment, Progress and Achievement
- Monitor and track student progress using assessment data to inform teaching and identify students who require additional challenge or support.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback that supports students in improving their geographical knowledge, analytical skills and examination performance.
- Prepare students effectively for internal and external assessments through structured revision and exam preparation.
- Contribute to departmental moderation and standardisation processes to ensure accurate and consistent assessment.
- Support students in developing the enquiry, evaluation and extended writing skills required for GCSE and A Level Geography.
Behaviour Management And Student Wellbeing
- Follow the school’s behaviour policy and maintain high expectations for student conduct and engagement.
- Manage classes effectively using positive behaviour strategies that support a focused and productive learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with students, encouraging respect, responsibility and independence.

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
Minimum Experience
A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a similar role.
