Role Overview
The Staff Software Engineer operates across a team, domain, chapter, and the wider technology organization.
The role requires end-to-end ownership of a system area, technical leadership, mentorship, and support for better product development.
Team and Domain Responsibilities
- Represent chapter direction and provide hands-on technical mentorship to teams.
- Drive critical and complex initiatives affecting multiple teams.
- Partner with engineering, product, and data counterparts to improve systems and processes.
- Simplify complexity, remove bottlenecks, and drive the RFC review process.
Chapter and Technology Organization
- Contribute to the chapter vision and strategy and sponsor key chapter initiatives.
- Coordinate mentorship efforts across the wider technology organization.
- Improve developer experience and help individuals and teams become more effective.
- Question and drive improvement across the technology organization.
Qualifications
- Experience building large-scale applications with modern programming languages such as C#, Java, or Go.
- At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an Extreme Programming environment.
- Expertise in distributed systems architecture, including microservices, event-driven systems, and RESTful services.
- Experience with automated end-to-end testing, relational and nonrelational databases, cloud platforms, trunk-based development, and continuous delivery.
- Familiarity with mobile architectures, trends, and emerging technology.
- Strong understanding of Lean and Agile values and practices.
- Empathy, relationship-building ability, strong communication, curiosity, openness, and a growth mindset.
- Proven ability to mentor other engineers.
