Job Overview

  • The staff nurse is accountable to the OPD Charge Nurse for delivering high quality care at Dallah Hospital.
  • The post holder ensures attainment of agreed clinical standards and professional development.

Day to day Activities

  • Assists physician in conducting patient examinations and provide routine treatments.
  • Obtains specimen for testing, conducts select routine laboratory tests, and records result.
  • Performs O.P.D. initial assessment and appropriate plan of care and relays information to physician.
  • Contacts various department personnel when ordering supplies, obtaining patient medical records, etc.
  • Performs related clinical duties such as compiling patient chart information and responding to routine patient inquiries.
  • Under direction from physician, performs tests and procedures including ear washes, throat cultures, vaccines, and injections.
  • Ensures patient chart information is prepared prior to patient admission.
  • Obtains patient medical records and inserts appropriate notes, forms and test results.
  • Maintains patient and clinic confidentiality.
  • Maintains continuity of care during take over and handover reports.
  • Ensures doctors' orders and patient management plans are followed.
  • Ensures appropriate records of patient progress are maintained per hospital policies.

Competencies Required

  • To obtain and interpret a 12 lead electrocardiogram.
  • To assist with laser procedures in the Ambulatory Clinic (Ophthalmology clinic).
  • To administer oxygen, nebulizer and aerosol treatments according to policy.
  • Complies with nursing practice standard related to immunization.
  • To be able to test visual acuity utilizing instruments provided.
  • To be able to safely apply/adapt/remove orthopedic cast.
  • To take actions to prevent patient falls.
  • To promote healthy, independent behaviors through education.
  • To provide appropriate care for pregnant women.
  • To provide care for antenatal patients with Diabetes Mellitus.
  • Ability to give medications safely via all routes relevant to age group and vulnerability.
  • Participate in patient and family education.
