About the Role
Petrofac is seeking a Senior Inspector I - Quality with expertise in piping, welding, and coating for its fabrication yard in Abu Dhabi. The role involves monitoring fabrication processes, reviewing welding procedures, performing inspections, and ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and report fabrication, installation, erection and testing processes of process piping, steel structures, tanks, vessels and metallic items.
- Review WPS, PQR and weld maps; witness welder qualifications.
- Ensure material/welding consumables are stored and handled correctly, material traceability maintained.
- Perform visual and dimensional checks; monitor welding process parameters.
- Prepare/review inspection reports (Fit up, Final Visual) and daily welding reports.
- Monitor piping installation compliance with P&IDs, isometric drawings, codes and standards.
- Line checking and clearing punch items before pressure test; witness pressure/leak testing.
- Inspect coating works: ensure surface preparation, monitor wet/dry film thickness, conduct visual and destructive tests.
Requirements
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- CSWP 3.2 or AWS CWI for Welding
- BGAS Gr II or NACE Level II for Painting/Coating Inspector
- Minimum 10 years experience as Welding/Pipeline QC Inspector & Painting/Coating QC Inspector in Structural Building/Fabrication Yard
- Experience in oil & gas/petrochemical industry
- Previously worked with major EPC contractors or their subcontractors

Key Responsibilities Welding
- Monitoring and reporting fabrication, installation, erection and testing processes of process piping, steel structures, tanks, vessels and metallic items.
- Review of WPS, PQR and weld maps.
- Witness Welder Qualifications.
- Ensure material/welding consumables are stored and handled correctly, material traceability maintained.
- Ensure welding machines/baking ovens/quivers are in serviceable condition and within valid calibration period.
- Timely inspection during fabrication and construction.
- Check qualification of welding personnel and materials used.
- Carry out inspection of work in progress including correct procedure for welding process.
- Perform visual and dimensional checks.
- Monitor welding process parameters for compliance with approved procedures and project specifications.
- Perform in process and final visual inspections.
- Prepare/Review Inspection reports (Fit up, Final Visual).
Key Responsibilities Piping
- Monitor and report compliance with P&IDs, Isometric drawings, codes, standards and procedures for piping.
- Ensure piping installation and test procedure(s) are followed.
- Ensure piping installation complies with isometric drawings and code requirements (material, alignment, supports, valve type, etc.).
- Verify proper size and schedule of pipe, rating of flange face and fittings.
- Ensure satisfactory identification of materials, proper protection of piping and fittings.
- Ensure adequate valve access for operability and maintenance.
- Ensure operation of flange management system (correct flange class, type, alignment, gasket, etc.).
- Responsible for quality control & inspection of piping fabrication activities.
- Line checking and clearing punch items before pressure test on completed pipelines.
- Checking piping materials as per codes and process standard specifications.
- Inspection of shop fabrication of piping spools and supports.
- Visual inspection of plant piping and preparing punch list after installation.
Key Responsibilities Coating
- Ensure weather conditions are acceptable per applicable standards/specifications.
- Ensure manufacturer’s instructions and MSDS are followed for handling & storage of painting/coating materials.
- Ensure data sheets available, material traceability maintained, correct material used.
- Monitor performance of contractors, ensure applicators competent and certified.
- Ensure inspection and test equipment serviceable and within calibration period.
- Ensure weld area covered before blasting if pressure testing not completed.
- Ensure protection of flange serration, instruments before blasting.
- Ensure surface preparation blast profile/cleanliness meet requirements.
- Continuous monitoring of surface cleanliness and record surface profile.
- Monitor wet film thickness during application and application technique.
- Monitor dry film thickness and recoating intervals.
- After full curing, conduct visual inspection and specified non destructive and/or destructive tests.
Essential Qualifications And Skills
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- CSWP 3.2 or AWS CWI for Welding and BGAS Gr II or NACE Level II for Painting/Coating Inspector.
- Minimum 10 years experience as Welding / Pipeline QC Inspector & Painting / Coating QC Inspector in Structural Building / Fabrication Yard.
- Should have experience in oil & gas/petrochemical industry.
- Should have previously worked with major EPC contractors or their subcontractors.
