Job Summary
Process and monitor settlement activity across domestic, regional and international markets.
Handle complex transactions involving equities, mutual funds, fixed income, hedge funds, structured funds, ETFs, securities lending and short selling.
Deliver accurate, timely client service while adhering to quality controls and procedures.
Settlement Operations
- Receive, validate, match and settle client, market and sub-custodian instructions across markets.
- Communicate with clients, counterparties, markets, sub-custodians, brokers, issuers, agents, regulators and other stakeholders.
- Process settlement activity in line with market rules, regulations and settlement best practices.
- Ensure trade statuses and instructions are communicated to stakeholders on time.
Cash, FX and Reconciliation
- Review and validate cash and FX settlement transactions, accounting entries and vouchers.
- Review client positions and holdings and reconcile them with sub-custodians and markets.
- Review client cash positions and escalate overdrafts or insufficient funding.
- Perform second-level SWIFT processing and reconciliations, escalating discrepancies to the VP.
Controls and Risk
- Monitor compliance with departmental controls, procedures, KPIs, KRIs and capacity plans.
- Submit incidents and issues for review and ensure transactions meet compliance and audit standards.
- Manage large and complex transactions to reduce loss, penalties and reputational, financial and operational risk.
- Follow departmental policies, standard operating procedures and instructions.
Projects and Improvement
- Participate in system upgrades, processing enhancements, off-hours testing and new client requirements.
- Support implementation of new products, functions, market rules, procedures and service-level agreements.
- Identify process improvements that enhance client satisfaction, reduce manual intervention and lower costs.
- Assist with reports, statements, business-as-usual requests and department initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications
- University graduate or bachelor’s degree, or five years of related work experience.
- Five or more years of related experience in securities services or back-office operations.
- Solid understanding of securities services, operations and related accounting activity.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to meet business objectives without compromising controls and risk parameters.
- Strong execution, communication, interpersonal and team-working skills.
- High accuracy and attention to detail.
- Specific securities-function experience is an added advantage.
