Role Overview

The Reception and Retail Specialist is a site-based position and often provides guests with their first impression of the center.

The role combines center administration, reception, retail operations, bookings, course support, and delivery of a high-quality visitor experience.

General Responsibilities

  • Assist the Center Manager with the smooth running of the center asset and support development of other centers.
  • Maintain the professional appearance of the center and ensure sales are conducted professionally.
  • Manage pre-opening inventory, retail stock, purchasing budgets, and stock sufficiency.
  • The description also states that the role may work remotely and visit the office as required.

Pre-Opening Activities

  • Work with the Center Manager to develop and deliver the center and its necessary components.
  • Support RSSE during the delivery stage to help achieve targets, initiate operational phasing, and deliver projects as designed.
  • Learn the retail products, local activities, courses, required materials, paperwork, prerequisites, age requirements, and applicable standards.

Post-Opening Operations

  • Ensure center activities are conducted professionally and support operations staff with safe daily activity delivery.
  • Maintain accurate retail records, inventory records, and supplier orders.
  • Plan and direct day-to-day retail outlet operations according to company policy.
  • Improve customer service, store sales, and profitability while meeting financial goals.
  • Resolve customer complaints, answer course and activity questions, take bookings, and support registration and rental equipment.
  • Maintain effective relationships with managers, coworkers, students, guests, and the public.

Policies, Safety, and Improvement

  • Follow relevant policies, processes, standard operating procedures, instructions, and reporting requirements.
  • Apply safety, quality, environmental, and legislative compliance controls for employees and the public.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, cost reduction, productivity improvement, and adoption of international best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Hospitality track record.
  • Proven sales record.
  • Knowledge of reception industry concepts, practices, and procedures.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent written and spoken English and strong communication skills.
  • Customer-service orientation, a can-do attitude, flexibility, self-motivation, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Sales ability, attention to detail, guest experience focus, and ability to handle high-end clientele.
  • Ability to manage guest requests and complaints and work with different cultures and nationalities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media experience, and ability to assist with dive-center administration and planning.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and follow professional grooming standards.
  • Interest in building understanding of marine science, research, conservation, and education.

Desirable Skills

  • Spoken language other than English, preferably Arabic.
  • Marine conservation interest or background.
