Senior Structural Engineer - Mining & Industrial

Position Overview

Asset Management and Inspections

• Perform hands-on visual condition assessments at remote underground and open-pit mines, process plants, and water treatment facilities.
• Assess walkways, ladders, and platforms against client and regulatory standards.
• Evaluate load paths, corrosion, concrete degradation, deformation, welds, and anchorage integrity.
• Classify deficiencies and prepare inspection reports with redlines and high-resolution photographs.
• Escalate imminent risks to clients and internal project managers.

Engineering and Project Delivery

• Prepare repair plans, structural response actions, and engineering assessments for industrial and water-retaining structures.
• Develop solutions for structural deterioration, facility life extension, and ground-improvement coordination.
• Write construction specifications for structural remediation and brownfield integration.
• Lead work from scoping and feasibility through detailed design, procurement, and commissioning.
• Manage delivery against schedule, budget, client requirements, and regulations.

Collaboration and Leadership

• Work with clients to develop tailored engineering solutions for mining and industrial operations.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering teams for project integration.
• Supervise, mentor, and review junior engineers and EITs.
• Support client relationships, market expansion, and business development initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, or equivalent.
• At least 6 years of structural engineering experience with asset management, condition assessments, and brownfield remediation.
• Willingness and physical ability to conduct inspections in challenging mining and water infrastructure environments.
• Expert knowledge of Canadian structural codes, including CSA S16 and CSA A23.3.
• Vehicle access, a valid driver's license, and a clean driver's record.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 10 years of structural inspection and remediation experience.
• Professional Engineer registration in British Columbia, Alberta, or Saskatchewan, or eligibility within 6 months.
• Water-retaining structure design experience using ACI 350 or equivalent standards.
• Experience with STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks.
• Familiarity with NDT oversight and advanced concrete or steel testing protocols.
• Business development experience with client management and proposal preparation.

Safety and Work Environment

• The role includes field work in underground and surface mining environments, remote locations, active water facilities, and hazardous areas.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures, including attention to gas monitoring and emergency egress systems.
• New employees must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office.
