Associate - Landscape Architect

Role overview

Project leadership and delivery

• Lead and independently manage multiple medium-sized landscape design projects with limited oversight.
• Structure project teams with clear roles and responsibilities and coordinate multiple disciplines.
• Lead client meetings, manage contractual requirements, and oversee deliverables from clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Lead complete technical packages and deliver designs with review from senior staff.
• Plan and conduct design and creative review sessions for projects and competitions.

Design and innovation

• Apply public realm design standards across landscape projects.
• Apply regional planting and irrigation requirements, standards, and guidelines.
• Develop innovative design solutions, landscape graphics, presentations, and digital tool applications.
• Contribute to studio design ethos discussions and identify opportunities for design improvement.

Commercial and operational duties

• Review landscape cost plans and align design delivery with project budgets.
• Prepare project financial status updates and support change or variation orders with project leadership.
• Provide updates for weekly studio and resourcing meetings.
• Organize internal libraries and update landscape capability statements and project sheets.
• Lead landscape bids and proposals, including technical and commercial aspects.

Quality and people development

• Apply quality procedures and complete self-checks and reviews before deliverables are shared.
• Review deliverables in line with QA/QC requirements.
• Provide professional mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
• Help identify skills gaps and support recruitment of new team members.

Qualifications and experience

• At least 12 years of professional experience in landscape architecture, with expertise in project design and delivery.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
• Working toward professional membership in urban design or architecture, such as RIBA or an equivalent body, is noted.

• Newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location.
