The position serves as a centralized inspection and asset integrity specialist supporting remote field execution.
Asset management and inspections
- Perform visual structural condition assessments at underground and open-pit mines, process plants, and water or wastewater facilities.
- Assess elevated walkways, ladders, and platforms against client and regulatory standards.
- Verify load paths, corrosion, concrete degradation, deformation, weld conditions, and anchorage integrity.
- Assign severity classifications and prepare inspection reports with annotated redline drawings and photographs.
- Escalate imminent risk conditions to clients and internal project managers.
Engineering response and remediation
- Prepare structural response actions, repair plans, and engineering assessments for industrial and water-retaining structures.
- Develop solutions to extend facility service life and troubleshoot structural deterioration.
- Coordinate ground-improvement activities and write specifications for structural remediation and brownfield integration.
Project delivery
- Lead structural engineering tasks from scoping and feasibility through detailed design, procurement, and commissioning.
- Deliver projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct site visits and provide hands-on support during underground and surface project execution.
- Supervise, mentor, and review junior engineers and EITs supporting field data collection.
Clients, compliance, and improvement
- Develop tailored engineering solutions with clients and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering teams.
- Maintain client relationships and support business development, including proposal preparation.
- Ensure condition assessments and document retention meet applicable provincial regulatory expectations.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures for mining environments, including hazardous areas, gas monitoring, and emergency egress systems.
- Identify and implement tools, methods, and approaches that improve project outcomes.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering, or equivalent.
- At least 6 years of structural engineering experience focused on asset management, condition assessments, and brownfield remediation.
- Physical ability and willingness to perform hands-on inspections in remote underground mines and active water treatment facilities.
- Expert knowledge of Canadian structural design codes, including CSA S16 and CSA A23.3.
- Access to a vehicle, a valid driver's license, and a clean driver's record.
Preferred skills
- 10+ years of structural inspection and remediation experience.
- Professional Engineer registration in British Columbia, Alberta, or Saskatchewan, or eligibility within 6 months.
- Experience with water-retaining structures and relevant codes such as ACI 350 or equivalent standards.
- Proficiency with STAAD Pro, SAP2000, or ETABS.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, non-destructive testing oversight, and advanced testing protocols.
- Experience with client relationship management and proposal preparation.
Work environment
- The role includes remote field execution, site visits, underground mines, surface environments, and active water treatment facilities.
- New hires must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location.
