About the Role

  • We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team at a leading engineering consultancy firm.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the contractual and financial side of construction projects, from initial estimates to final accounts.
  • This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of construction economics, and extensive knowledge of cost control practices within diverse project sectors including healthcare, commercial, residential, and industrial developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bills of quantities for construction projects, based on architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Manage project budgets and provide regular financial reports, forecasting costs and identifying potential savings or overruns.
  • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure cost effective procurement and compliance with project specifications.
  • Monitor project expenditures, perform cost value reconciliations, and ensure accurate allocation of costs across different work packages.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, verify claims, and ensure alignment between actual construction and planned financial targets.
  • Prepare, analyze, and manage tender documentation and contract terms in coordination with legal and procurement teams.
  • Administer contracts and manage change control processes, including variations, claims, and final accounts settlement.
  • Support project risk management by identifying potential cost risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Provide advice on contractual matters, cost control procedures, and procurement strategies to project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines in relation to cost planning and project deliverables.
  • Work closely with the Resident Engineer and construction team to assess project performance and align financial goals with construction timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of all contractual and financial project information for audit and reporting purposes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in quantity surveying and cost management within the construction or engineering sector.
  • Proven expertise in cost planning, procurement, contract administration, and commercial project management.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and pricing trends in the local and international markets.
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficient in quantity surveying software (e.g., CostX, WinQS, Candy) and general project management tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership or certification (e.g., MRICS, RICS, CIQS, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of FIDIC and other standard forms of contract is an advantage.
