Responsibilities
- Organize and manage internal Shari'a audit assignments according to audit plans
- Oversee internal Shari'a audits and make policy recommendations to ensure Shari'a compliance
- Perform complex internal Shari'a audit assignments and serve as project leader on standard audits
- Prepare risk based Shari'a audit plans, including developing understanding of activities and defining Shari'a risks and controls
- Draft and revise Shari'a audit programs based on risk assessment
- Compile and review Internal Shari'a Supervisory Committee resolutions
- Prepare working papers and ensure they are complete and adequate to support exceptions
- Follow up on client management replies to exceptions and escalate delays
- Train new/existing staff on Shari'a related issues and audit approach
- Maintain constructive working relationships with clients and teamwork environment
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Sharia, Islamic Economics, or Islamic Banking
- CISSA and CIPA certifications (or alternative certifications)
- Professional certificate in auditing from an international organization
- 5 to 10 years of experience in Shari'a audit or related field
- Proficiency in Arabic and English
- IT skills

Role Purpose
- Responsible for organizing and managing internal Shari'a audits assignments according to Internal Shari'a audit plans.
- Oversee the process of Internal Shari'a audits, make recommendations on policies, and ensure compliance with Shari'a rules & principles.
- Provide reasonable assurance to management that Shari'a risk is mitigated to an acceptable residual level.
Key Accountabilities
- Adhere to AAOIFI Standards, Institute of Internal Audit Standards, and Internal Shari'a Audit objectives.
- Perform internal Shari'a audit assignments efficiently based on risk based approach.
- Assist in preparing risk based Shari'a audit plans by developing understanding of activities and defining Shari'a risks and controls.
- Draft/revise/update Shari'a Audit Program based on risk assessment.
- Compile and review Internal Shari'a Supervisory Committee resolutions.
- Prepare working papers and ensure they reflect work performed and support exceptions.
- Provide guidance to other Shari'a Auditors as requested.
- Follow up on client management replies to exceptions within 3 working days.
- Complete assigned duties within projected time scale.
- Identify critical Shari'a risks and control weaknesses and report to Team Leader.
- Ensure corrective actions taken on previous audit exceptions.
- Maintain constructive working relationships and teamwork environment.
Specialist Skills / Technical Knowledge Required
- Bachelor in Sharia or Islamic Economics or Islamic Banking.
- CISSA and CIPA certifications (or alternative certifications).
- Professional certificate in auditing issued by an international organization.
- Arabic & English language.
- IT skills.
- 5 to 10 years' experience.
