About the Role

  • Create design for minor and major structural changes and repair to aerospace products, ensuring compliance with aviation safety and airworthiness regulations.
  • Verify and certify minor structural changes and repair to aerospace products within scope of authorization.
  • Prepare and compile comprehensive Compliance Documentation (reports, test plans, analysis) proving design compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform reporting to OEM for major structural damage out of QMRO scope of work.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Review required design change/repair and classify if within privileges of Qatar Airways Design organization (QADO).
  • Classify change or repair considering internal procedures, EASA Part 21 regulations and related publications.
  • Ensure design minimizes risk to aircraft operation and crew, assessing impact on structure integrity and fatigue/damage tolerance.
  • Ensure documents for design change/repair are of acceptable standard per Qatar Airways Design Organization Handbook.
  • Liaise with design Engineer and Senior Compliance Verification engineer to assist in certification documentation and design data creation.
  • Ensure design data complies with change/repair Project Work Scope and implement required Engineering Changes/Repairs in timely and cost effective manner.
  • Review engineering data and drawings for accuracy before embodiment to maintain technical and quality requirements.
  • Review and ensure Means of Compliance are appropriate and complete according to applicable airworthiness regulations.
  • Liaise with Head of Office of Airworthiness to track regulation changes, organize training, update procedures, forms and processes.
  • Guide new employees to align with team objectives and priorities.
  • Collaborate with manager to lead projects involving multiple sections for Technical Department.
  • Perform other department duties as directed by Head of Department.

Essential Qualifications

  • B.Sc. (Engineering) or B.Eng. degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, or equivalent from recognized university.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in aircraft design, certification, or related engineering field, specializing in Design Engineer discipline.
  • Working experience as Design Engineer in an EASA Part 21J organization.
  • Completed Boeing Aircraft Structure Repair for Engineers – Part 3 or equivalent.
  • Completed Boeing Composite Repair for Engineers or Equivalent.
  • Experience in formulating compliance documentation for Structural changes/Repairs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or postgraduate Diploma in relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Completed Part 21 and CS 25 courses within last 2 years.
  • Involved in DOA activities for various types of minor or major projects.

Job Specific Skills (Essential)

  • Good understanding and knowledge of aircraft structure (sheet metal & composites).
  • Detailed knowledge of Design Engineer's responsibilities with respect to EASA Part 21J.
  • In depth knowledge of EASA Part 21J regulations and technical airworthiness paragraphs (JAR/CS/FAR 25), related to Aircraft Structures repair design.
  • Good knowledge of aircraft materials and joining methods.
  • Understand and interpret aircraft data including IPC/AMM/SRM/WBM, drawings, parts list, reports for both Airbus and Boeing fleet.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience on minor changes/repairs on aircraft structures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and very good communication skills.

Job Specific Skills (Preferred)

  • Previously assigned as DE Candidate in an EASA approved Design Organization.
  • Having completed Part 21 and CS 25 courses within the last 2 years.
  • Experience in Fusion360/SolidWorks/Catia CAD software.
  • Knowledge and interpretation of regulations for aircraft design changes to seating or interior components.
  • Good knowledge of aircraft interiors flammability requirements.
  • Managerial skills ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Ability to train and develop subordinate's skills.
  • Ability to foster teamwork among team members.
