Job Purpose

  • The role of the Job Holder is to underwrite SME credit applications, with focus on Business Banking Asset Finance (BAF), Trade, Working Capital, and Secured Lending (Mortgage/LAP), in line with the BAF Credit Policy of the Bank.
  • The Job Holder will analyse, structure and recommend credit proposals, including trade and working capital facilities, and identify/handle deviations for escalation in accordance with the Bank’s delegation matrix.
  • The role is primarily focused on detailed credit analysis, validation, and preparation of credit recommendations, with limited involvement in structuring or independent decision making.

Job Responsibilities

  • Underwrite SME credit proposals for standard and moderately complex cases, across business loans, trade & working capital, and secured lending
  • Underwrite SME credit proposals across business loans, trade & working capital, and secured lending
  • Analyse borrower financials to support assessment of cashflows, repayment capacity, leverage, and working capital cycles
  • Evaluate cash conversion cycle, receivable/payable ageing, and inventory turnover
  • Perform validation of financials and data using bank statements, AECB, audited financials, and scorecard inputs (MRA/Credit Lens, financial spreading)
  • Assess trade linked exposures and perform basic validation of trade flows and supporting documentation (invoice/shipping/transport records)
  • Identify risk indicators, inconsistencies, and potential fraud signals
  • Provide analytical support and recommendations, with escalation of cases for review and approval by higher authorities
  • Prepare structured credit notes with clear recommendations
  • Ensure quality and accuracy of underwriting in adherence to credit policies
  • Maintain productivity standards and TAT/SLA compliance
  • Initiate field visits/valuations where required to validate business operations and/or collateral.

Skills

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong working knowledge of business software applications, particularly spreadsheets.
  • Exposure to SME credit, trade, or working capital assessment desirable.
  • 4–6 years of SME underwriting experience, including exposure to business loans, trade/working capital facilities, and secured lending (Mortgage/LAP)
  • Written and spoken English – Arabic preferred
  • Good understanding of banking operations, Bank policies, procedures, guidelines, statutory requirements, market conditions.
  • Hands on experience in: Financial analysis, Cashflow assessment, Basic understanding of trade cycles and SME business models
