Lead client-facing cost management for a large-scale, mission-critical data center program.
Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining commercial controls and stakeholder engagement.
The role is primarily remote and supports a data center campus in Frederick, Maryland.
Work arrangement and travel
- Candidates may be located anywhere on the East Coast with strong data center cost management experience.
- Travel to the Frederick, Maryland project site is required for major project activities and periodic onsite support.
- The expected onsite presence is approximately three to four days per month, with approved travel and mileage reimbursed.
Responsibilities
- Develop cost plans and estimates through design and delivery using benchmarks and technical documentation.
- Prepare monthly cost reports, executive summaries, funding data, and estimate revisions.
- Coordinate cost information for validation and auditing and compile built cost records for benchmarking.
- Lead procurement strategy, contractor and subcontractor pricing reviews, scope validation, and commercial negotiations.
- Manage final accounts, change orders, post-contract variances, cost risks, contingencies, and commitments.
- Maintain cost control systems and integrate cost with schedule and scope.
- Lead value engineering and cost optimization initiatives and monitor market trends.
- Act as primary client interface, present executive updates, ensure methodology adherence, and mentor junior team members.
- Track margins and monthly fee and resource forecasts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or a related field.
- Five to seven or more years of cost management experience supporting mission-critical data center projects is required.
- Strong expertise in cost planning, forecasting, change management, procurement, and project controls.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, resilience, and campus-scale hyperscale infrastructure.
- Strong foundation in budgeting, financial reporting, cost control systems, and Earned Value Management.
- Expertise in procurement strategies and commercial management of contractor and vendor contracts.
- Construction consultancy experience is strongly preferred.
- RICS accreditation or progress toward certification is advantageous.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with industry-standard cost management tools and software.
Compensation
- The stated base salary range is $140,000 to $160,000 USD.
- Final compensation depends on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
- Employees may also be eligible for bonuses and benefits.
