Role Purpose
The Senior Cost Control Engineer provides cost control input across project delivery from inception to completion.
The role manages cost control for the full project and supports project management decisions within the approved budget.
This is a mid-management leadership position requiring a proactive, collaborative approach and the ability to manage relationships at all levels.
Key Accountabilities
- Establish and manage a cost control system for project management decision-making.
- Create cost awareness across the Project Management Team.
- Prepare project budgets from actual costs, estimates, contractual documents, and costing standards.
- Review tender estimates and escalate irregularities.
- Prepare monthly cost reports comparing actual performance with project budgets.
- Coordinate with internal teams to obtain actual costs assigned to project cost centres.
- Review cost reports with stakeholders and align findings with the project team.
- Monitor daily project costs, metrics, subcontractor costs, and material purchases against budget.
- Coordinate risk management workshops and qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.
- Analyze performance, update costing databases, escalate deviations, and revise budgets after scope changes.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or another related engineering field.
- At least 5 years of experience in project management, project controls, planning, estimation, budgeting, and cost control.
- Experience with the Earned Value Method in cost reporting.
- Strong knowledge of planning and cost control techniques, methods, systems, standards, and software.
- Certified Cost Professional certification is an added advantage.
- Industry certifications in project management and project controls are advantageous.
- Computer literacy is required.
